HDTV converter boxes are boxes that convert a digital signal into something that is compatible with a non digital TV. In 2005, the government mandated that all TVs must be either digital, or have a converter box that allows them to receive digital signal some years in the future. This, subsequently, meant that all programming would need to switch over to a digital signal, and that there would no longer be any analog broadcasting over the airwaves. The reason for this was public safety. The government deemed that it was not safe to have television waves interfering with other important waves over the air, and there should be no more broadcasting so that an antenna could pick up a signal.

Unfortunately for a lot of Americans, this meant that their antennas would no longer work and that they had to upgrade their televisions or their programming. Luckily, the government realized it wasn’t fair for people to have to pay more for something they already received for free, so they offered vouchers to obtain boxes for free that would convert the digital signal into something that their TV couple process.

These coupons, available from the government, were widespread and allowed regular television users to watch programming they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to. Additionally, some websites offered HDTV converter box coupons that would allow HD programming to be watched on a non HDTV. This was a benefit for non HD users because some channels only broadcast programming in HD, and without this box they would never be able to see it. The coupons are very easy to apply for, and even easier to obtain and use. Some websites offer coupons that can be used at popular stores like Best Buy or Walmart, giving you the power to go and get the box.
