HDTV Converter Box Reviews

There is some confusion in the terminology of whether a consumer needs an HDTV converter box or a DTV converter box. Because there aren?t any converter boxes so that a television set can receive HD programming, this article will talk about the DTV converter boxes.

Because of the switch to digital programming in 2009, people have found that there is a necessity to do their research about what they are buying before they buy. As with everything else finding the best converter box for you and your home is made all the more difficult by more and more companies manufacturing them. This means there is more competition and there are some that perform better than others.

Seeing that there is a need for people to be able to quickly and easily compare the different converter boxes, many independent research companies have compiled their own criteria for what makes the best box. These various criteria include how well the components compare, the picture quality and even how user friendly the device is. Because of these criteria, many consumers can now make an informed decision about which box would best suit their lifestyle as well as their budget.

Consumer Reports has a full list of various converter boxes that are all designated a rating of basic, better or best. These ratings are given according to how the box scored on the ten criteria and the amount of options that are given with the box. These scores are some of the easiest to follow and deal with real world applications making them more important to the consumer than others who are basing their results on all of the technical aspects of the device.

HDTV Converter Box Coupon

HDTV converter boxes are boxes that convert a digital signal into something that is compatible with a non digital TV. In 2005, the government mandated that all TVs must be either digital, or have a converter box that allows them to receive digital signal some years in the future. This, subsequently, meant that all programming would need to switch over to a digital signal, and that there would no longer be any analog broadcasting over the airwaves. The reason for this was public safety. The government deemed that it was not safe to have television waves interfering with other important waves over the air, and there should be no more broadcasting so that an antenna could pick up a signal.

Unfortunately for a lot of Americans, this meant that their antennas would no longer work and that they had to upgrade their televisions or their programming. Luckily, the government realized it wasn’t fair for people to have to pay more for something they already received for free, so they offered vouchers to obtain boxes for free that would convert the digital signal into something that their TV couple process.

These coupons, available from the government, were widespread and allowed regular television users to watch programming they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to. Additionally, some websites offered HDTV converter box coupons that would allow HD programming to be watched on a non HDTV. This was a benefit for non HD users because some channels only broadcast programming in HD, and without this box they would never be able to see it. The coupons are very easy to apply for, and even easier to obtain and use. Some websites offer coupons that can be used at popular stores like Best Buy or Walmart, giving you the power to go and get the box.

HDTV Converter Box Coupon

If you have not taken the plunge and bought yourself a new high definition television system yet, you are probably still using your old analog television. If you have your old TV hooked up to a cable television service or satellite TV, your provider has already installed a converter somewhere in your system to allow your analog TV to process the provider’s high definition digital signals. If you only use your analog TV for playing video games or for watching movies via a DVD or VHS player, then you don’t need to worry about the high definition conversion problem. But, if you are still using an analog television receiving local broadcasts through “rabbit ears” or an antenna on your roof, then you already know that your present setup is no longer giving you a useable signal. You will have to install a digital-to-analog converter box between your antenna and television in order to receive the HDTV signals.

When the changeover to HDTV broadcasting took effect, there was a national HDTV converter box coupon program that provided television owners with a coupon to help pay for the cost of installing an HDTV converter box. Unfortunately, that program has ended, so you will be responsible for the entire cost of the conversion yourself. It is not an insurmountable problem, though, because the cost of digital to analog converter boxes is quite reasonable. You can get your sytem up and running for under fifty dollars if you install it yourself.

Don’t settle for paying full retail price for your converter, though. If you shop online for a converter, you can probably find a good deal (check out our online HDTV converter store first!) that won’t cost much. Plus, always search in your favorite search engine for an online HDTV converter box coupon code before you buy. You may be able to find a coupon from a big manufacturer or retailer that you save you a few bucks.

HDTV Converter Box

With the state of the economy, many people have been unable to continue to afford the luxuries in life such as cable or satellite television. These people have made do, just as in the times before cable, by simply watching local programming. However, in 2009 the FCC made it impossible to do this for free without buying a new television. This led to many people buying converter boxes, which the government did discount, and then having to hook them up to their TV’s.

One of the converter boxes that was not discounted, but better for those people who couldn’t afford cable or satellite any longer, was to buy and HDTV converter instead of just a DTV converter box. These HDTV boxes, when hooked up with the right television, greatly increase picture quality as well as the amount of channels. Unfortunately, when using HDTV converters it is a good idea to use a regular antenna as well so that you don’t lose your original programming. This means that you will need to have either a new television (one that is designed to use DTV frequencies) or you will have to have an additional converter box.

Once you get your converter box, hooking it up is simple. Just position your television so that you can reach the back panel. Using the already present cable, hook the antenna up to the “antenna in” port on the converter box. Then take red, white and yellow RCA cords and hook them into the designated positions in the TV (video in) and the Converter box. After completing this you will use a coaxial cable (generally included with the converter kit) and run it from the “Output to TV” port to the “Cable in” port on your television.

With everything switching over to a digital signal, HD TV converters are a must if you plan on watching any TV. Every signal that is being sent out by the TV stations are digital instead of the analog signal that was send out before the transfer occurred. Not only has the signal changed, so has how you view your TV. Not only do you get a stronger signal with the digital signal, you can watch your programming in high definition. This means a lot if you want clarity in your picture.

You can get the picture you want with just a digital signal because the signal is stronger and cleaner than the analog signal. The problem is, if you are looking to get HD form the digital signal, either you need a HD TV converter box or a TV that can read the signal and convert it into a HD picture on your TV. If you are looking to get a HD TV, all new TVs that are made have the converter is built right in. Now, if you just bought your TV before the change happened and don’t want to buy another one, you can get a HD TV converter box so you can still use the TV you just got.

Using HDTV Converters in Your Home

Many people enjoy having HDTV programming but cannot really use them on their televisions at home that are not designed for HDTV formatted signals. By using a converter, many people can take advantage of HDTV programming by using their signal on their normal television without distortion and better resolution for the television you are using. It is important to remember that the services offered by HDTV programming are usually not any different for those who have non HDTV compatible televisions but the quality may be much different thus needing a special HDTV converter to actually make use of their current programming.

These HDTV converters are available from many online sites that specialized in retrofitting existing technologies with the tools needed to take advantage of the newest technologies. You can really use these converter boxes to your advantage if most of your programming comes in HDTV format but is unusable through your television. Many people pay extra for HDTV programming while some companies simply offer it free of charge even if you cannot use it. The problem with this is that some channels only come in HDTV format and will not be accessible for those with a normal television set.

HDTV converters are available at affordable prices so that people could really take advantage of their signal and watch the television programming they wish to see. There are also different types of HDTV converters that make it possible to somewhat emulate what an HDTV signal would look like through your non HDTV set by making the resolution more crisp and very pleasing to your eyes. They will pack in more information into a smaller space making it a very clear and nice image for you to really take advantage of. When you are ready to upgrade to an HDTV television the transition will amaze you!

Enjoying Better Picture with HDTV Converters

Filed under: Hdtv Converters - 14 Jul 2009  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Many people know the benefits of having the best picture quality in your movies and television shows is a great standard and this is also propagated by those who use HDTV formats on their televisions. Although many people cannot yet afford an HDTV ready television especially during a recession, it is important to try out an HDTV converter to try it out before you invest time and money into a set that you may not like after you try it out. HDTV signals are basically the same as normal television signals and are simply much larger to reduce loss in picture when using a large television screen.

HDTV converters actually make the video a little bit crisper and allow you to experience close to the real thing in terms of visuals. They are the perfect solution to your HDTV needs if you currently are subscribed to a service such as satellite or digital cable that give HD feeds. HDTV converter boxes allow you to try before you buy and give you the ability to test out the quality before committing to buying a new television. HDTV converters also allow you to take full advantage of your HD players, even Bluray format!

Many gaming consoles simply do not look great on an older television and would do best by converting the signal through an HDTV converter to take advantage of the higher resolution options with an older TV or one that may be smaller. You can simply skip the new TV and make use of a converter instead. This not only saves you money on buying a television you don’t need, but gives you options to switch back and forth, especially when you only need the converter for certain things. Trying out HDTV before you buy it is a way to measure if it is really worth all of the hype!

Can You Watch HDTV?

Filed under: Hdtv Converters - 03 Apr 2009  | Spread the word !

When it comes to technology, I definitely don’t consider myself to be an expert. Although I am far from being clueless when it comes to technology, I am definitely not a guru. Additionally, I am not the type of person who spends a lot of time thinking about the technology in my life. While I am glad that I have it and know that it makes my life a lot easier, I don’t sit around and think about the specific details of my computer or television. While I actually respect people who spend time tweaking their computer and experimenting with their television, this is simply not something that I have ever had an interest in.

Because I’m not actually into technology, I never worry about getting the latest piece of technology that hits the market. From what I have seen over the years, if you are always worried about having the latest piece of technology, you are simply going to drive yourself crazy. The reason that I say this is because as soon as you get the newest thing on the market, something newer is going to hit the market in six months or less.

Since I don’t need to have the latest piece of technology, I didn’t get an HDTV when they came out. However, as HDTV grew in popularity, I got a little more interested in it. I decided that I wanted to check it out for myself, and since I didn’t want to invest in a new television, I bought an HDTV converter for my television. By purchasing an HDTV converter for my older television, I am able to enjoy HDTV programming without spending money on a new television.
